At Lunar Animation, working remotely with artists from all over the world has always been a part of our pipeline. And it’s enabled us to find and hire some of the best animators, FX artists and 3D modellers in the field, without geographical location ever being a barrier.
Having this in place means that we already have a good understanding of what our internal team needs when working from home during the onset of Covid-19 in the UK. We have our team setup with the right equipment and tools needed to create their home setup so that we could all continue to work as normal while keeping safe. These include their work station and access to our our VPN for software licenses and files on our server.
But what does that look like when working with and syncing exceptionally large files and scenes? Due to our well established remote set up for artists, we already have tools such as our own custom scripts and pipeline in place for syncing, which has proven particularly valuable in recent times. This is crucial when dealing with everyones individual internet speeds and choosing the right content to sync at the right time, as the files we generate in computer animation can be massive.
Like most people, human interaction is missed by the team (especially our annual pancake day outing) but what’s really amazing is that we’re able to stay a fully operational studio throughout this time while keeping staff safe. And when the time comes, we’ll be able celebrate the continuous efforts of all of our artists with a well overdue huge stack of pancakes and most likely a beer.
Other than that we hope everyone stays safe during this time!
